Ranikhet is a picturesque and relatively unexplored hill station in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. According to legend, a queen, in the course of a journey came here and was so enchanted by its beauty that she settled down here. Hence the name Rani-khet, meaning Queens Fields. Ranikhet is also home to an army cantonment, the famous Kumaon Regiment of the Indian Army.
Discovered by Britishers in 1869, this place offers a panoramic view of the majestic Himalayas, ranging from the Bhagirathi peaks in the West to Nanda Kot in the East.
